Vegas 8 Camera Problem

danobass wrote on 11/28/2008, 11:41 PM
I have Sony Vegas 8 on a Dell laptop, and am trying to connect a Sony HDV1080i MiniDV camera. When I try to select File/Capture I get an error message that says the "The Device Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit could not be opened - Please make sure that it is turned on or is not in use by another program."

I have searched the Internet and cannot find a resolution

Please help

You need Vegas Movie Studio PLATIMUM edition to capture HDV content. Movie Studio only does DV, not HDV/AVCHD.

First download the trial of Vegas Movie Studio Plat (Pro) and see if it works. Make sure, when you buy, to go for the 'upgrade' option, 'cause this will save you a nice amount of money.

THanks folks,

That seems to have solved that problem.

On Vegas 8 there is a feature in Advanced Capture for setting the time code in and out for capture length, what is that feature in 9 Platinum?

It was just a button that I clicked, on this version, itappears that I have to type the timecode in, am I missing something?

I don't think there is such a feature for HDV. For HDV you just use the tapes to capture the whole thing.

that's not good, makes editing and producing very cumbersome,

I need little 2 to 5 minute interview segments of footage that I filmed for short video clips on a fishing website.

Capturing all and trying to edit that way is brutal.

Are you sure there's not a nother way to capture short segments?

Just use Vegas' controls to move the tape to the place you want, then start recording, and when it's done, you stop the recording. It's easy to do, it's just that it requires your presence.
