Vegas 8>just learning> can't "see" med

I can't see the media on the timeline . I can preview it but not on the timeline. This doesn't happen in my Vegas 4. I've done a search and can't seem to find what I have checked or unchecked in my preferences to make this happen. Yes, I have read the manual (mostly) and have used ver. 4 a little but I thought I would purchase ver. 8 to play around with the canon hv30 that I just purchased. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Blink,

Sorry to be such a burden but I can preview ok. It's just that in the timeline that I can't see any video or media. I looked at the links your provided and am still confused. I tried checking and unchecking but I am still missing any media in the timeline. I can't drag the media there but I can't "see" it. The event is highlighted but no visible action to edit unlesss I refer to the preview window. This is very unlike the V. 4 that I own. What am I missing? Thanks for your assistance.

You mean you can see the events on the time line but you just can't see the video thumbnails?

If I'm understanding you (correctly this time) then you need to go to preferences\video\THUMBNAILS TO SHOW VIDEO EVENTS and make sure this is set to "ALL"

Thank you, thank you! I thought I had checked everything in my preferences but apparently not. This fixed the problem. It's people like you that make the forum useful not only to pros but to beginners like me. By the way I will take a harder and longer look at the manual to skirt any problems in the future.

Wellston, although everything seems obvious once we've gained familiarity, few manuals are written in blindingly clear language. Don't hesitate to ask for information.
