I just order my first Quad Q6600 Processor desktop/server for around $400.00, and was wondering if Vegas 8 Pro will take advantage of a QUAD processor? Is there any special configuring I will need to do?
Matt -- I have the Q6600 on an Intel "boxer" motherboard. Running Vegas 8b, the 4 CPU usage goes up fairly evenly on certain operations. I haven't done a bench mark other than to compare rendering of a 60 minute MPEG 2 file (had taken up to 12 hours on old Athlon system) to a few hours on the 4-cpu system. Recently I got adventurous and did some color corrections that I never would have done due to render times.
Of course, I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro because my HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) was set for a single CPU and I only got the one CPU in Windows Task Manager Performance monitoring. After the in place reinstall, I had all four CPUs showing up ... my bad, i guess for not catching this initially.
I also put 4GB of RAM on the motherboard, which can hold up to 8 whenever I put a 64 bit OS on there. Be sure to have enough cooling in the case too.
