Vegas 8 problem

I have tried to install vegas 8 but keep getting the message "you must have local system administrator privileges in order to install this software". As I am the only user on my desktop computer I am stumped, I have istalled vegas 7 with no problem & I am still waiting for a technical reply from Sony since the 15th. Can anyone help...P.S I get the same message on my laptop as well.

XP or Vista?

if it's XP odds are your user doesn't have admin rights. Try logging in as administrator. If it's Vista maybe someone else can help, I don't have Vista so I don't know.

You may be the only user on the computer, but a typical default XP install still has a separate Admin account if I'm not mistaken. I always make myself as admin and as the only admin whenever I do a nuke and pave of my install.

I haven't seen an error like this a long time since doing this on a regular basis (like several years haven't seen).

You need to go into the control panel ->Administrative tools ->Computer management ->Local Users and Groups ->Users and confirm you are the Admin. It sounds to me you probably aren't but I'm only guessing.
