vegas 8 windows 7 will not register

bakerja wrote on 6/25/2010, 6:34 AM
I recently upgraded a laptop to windows 7-32 and when I try to register vegas 8c, it fails. Sony support says that this product is not supported in windows 7. I have 64 bit version running on my desktop machine with win7-64. This does not make me happy. Any ideas how to get vegas 8c running on win7-32????

I don't want to upgrade to vegas 9. Not enough of a workflow enhancement for me to spend the dollars that I don't have.

thanks,
jab

JAB - please try registering again - the problem should be resolved. You are correct that Vegas Pro 8 is not officially supported under Windows 7, so you may encounter issues. However, we are nonetheless able to assist with registration issues, so please contact customer service if this registration problem persists.

Still having problems. Just for fun I tried installing on an old XP machine and am getting the same error. Maybe my account has exceeded maximum installs? Sony does not support registration issues via phone anymore so I am at the mercy of the 'system'. I submitted a support ticket. Hope this gets resolved soon because I really need this laptop to be functional SOON.

Thanks for your help,
jab

Is the error code "-41"? This seems to be the one that indicates using up all your allowed activations. Usually a quick call to support can get this cleared.

Support will not take calls regarding registration anymore. Must use the support ticket route.

I am having the very same issue. I had to uninstall/reinstall Vegas 8 on Win7, and running into this registration problem. So I went through the web form, and it refuses to register. I tried to submit an online ticket, but that just tells me Vegas 8 is not supported under Windows 7. I have no idea if the support ticket went through or not. Now I am sitting here unable to use Vegas, and I am extremely frustrated. I have used Vegas since v3.0 (and later v4, 5, 7, and 8). I don't really need to upgrade to 9, as 8 has been working perfectly up until now.

The reason for reinstall was suddenly got a missing DLL error when starting Vegas 8.

I tried again to call support Friday afternoon at around 3pm. They were all closed for a company wide meeting. I'm going to try again Monday to talk to a real person. If you answer the phone prompts accurately, you will never get a real person on the phone. I'm going to take a chance and do whatever I have to to talk to someone because I really need this resolved ASAP.

I feel you JAB. I just right now uninstalled VP8.1 to revert to 8.0... and now it won't let me register so maybe they are having issues on their end.
it just says "server unable to register.. error... "

hope we/they can get this figured out soon. like yesterday.

If there is any kind of activation limit I am surprised I haven't hit it yet. I often upgrade hardware and sometimes format. I'm sure I've gone through quite a few activations. I would think at least 10 by now.

Back in business! I called today and followed the prompts to "pre sale questions". A real person answered and was extremely helpful. She said that they don't do "normal" registrations over the phone any more but they are happy to help when you have a problem.
