Vegas 8c hangs won't open

About 18 months ago, I purchased Vegas 8.0 and it installed and performed well. Now, every time I try to open it, it stalls at:
"Creating audio engine...." and will not open. I have reinstalled it several times but the same happens; it opens immediately after installation but will not re-open. I downloaded the update Vegas 8c and it does the same. Please help.

Have you changed your Sound Card, or updated Sound Card Drivers, recently?
Were you using ASIO Drivers for sound card?
What is the Sound Card?

Please fill out your system specs in your profile.

Try readying your prefs:

Hold down Shift and Control when you start Vegas. You will be prompted to reset your preferences.

I did and it gave me one choice to reset to default. I reset to default and it continues to hang at creating audio engine.

Sorry, I did not update card. I updated driver for whatever video card is in my Acer Ferrari 5000 laptop.

.... and that's when it all went wrong?
Obvious answer is to roll back that driver update, and see if it works again.

Please, fill out yur system specs in your user profile.

What audio hardware are you using?

What driver model are you using?

Have you installed any new VST plugins or video codecs recently?
