Vegas 9 memory issues with WMV files

Anyone have issue with editing WMV files in Vegas 9? I'm having frequent "Not Responding" lock up errors with V9 when editing several WMV files in timeline (perhaps 30+ WMV's). Vegas works fine for about 5-10 minutes, then consistently locks up.

I'm suspecting memory issues because I find after locking up and re-starting Vegas several times I start to have insufficient memory issues - especially with rendering - so I have to re-boot system.

I've had similar issues with 24fps AVCHD video, so I'm wondering about pattern with certain file types. Does Vegas lose track of memory and lock it up? This has happened on XP and Vista with V8 and V9. Both are 32 bit machines. Vista has 3G memory.

What is the source of your wmv files, which version, bitrate, etc.?
If they were captured from WMM, for instance, you may not have much luck.

WMV's created from V7 and V8, over past few years. Bitrates vary from 1.5 to 3MBs, frame size also varies 640x480 square, 640x360 sq, and WMV is from whatever MS had over past few years(9, 10, 11?) - it's a mix whatever the case.

My thought for solution was re-rendering all to same size AVI, but I was really thinking Vegas should be able to handle multiple file types, sizes, bitrates, etc. Going back over past 3 years to find source files and re-render would be lots of time/work.
