Vegas 9 won't import video (???)

I've got some AVI files that I downloaded and tried to open in Vegas 9 Pro. But only the audio track is opening. There's no video track at all! It will still open stills, but no video. I tried opening the same file in Nuendo 4.3 and it opened just fine.

Did I accidentally turn something off that's blocking video import into Vegas?

Where did the video originally come from?
Run it through MediaInfo and let us know what it says about the codec used.

Read this thread for an overview on how to solve the problem. It appears that some are using codecs in the avi wrapper that were not the ones originally intended. You need to find out which codecs are in the avi.

YouTube
AVI: 19.5 MiB, 3mn 10s
1 video stream: MPEG-4Visual (Microsoft)
1 audio stream: MPEG Audio (MP3)

First Video Stream 753Kbps, 368*208 (16:9) at 25.000fps MPEG-4Visual (Microsoft)
First Audio Stream 96.0 Kbps 44.1KHZ, 2channels MPEG Audio (MP3)
(Joint STEREO / MS Stereo)

My default is NTSC 29.970 but even so, shouldn't Vegas have automatically allowed for the PAL 2500 difference and imported it anyway? Or do I have to set the project window manually for that. I tried that and still only got audio.

The clips play fine on my desktop or in Nuendo. They just won't open in Vegas.

Do you have a current version of QuickTime player installed?

I think so. I went to the latest version end of July. Is there a newer one out?

Vegas is probably not expecting MPEG4 in a AVI wrapper. Try downloading the file as an MP4 file.

Notice the comments about MPEG-4 Visual (Microsoft) in this link, and the codecs used for this video down the page.

I agree with JR.
I've been using Free Studio (really, free) for some time now to download YouTube files and Vegas hasn't had any problems with the mp4 files that I use as a saving format.

Yep, that worked. Thanks a lot!
