Are Sony Vegas and Analog Video Cards Compatable....Can I use the component cables and/or an s video cable? Everythin I read says only USB -2 or firewire.
I still need to figure out how to get the date/time stamp on my captured video.
Putting together 2 and 2 to get something somewhere between 3 and 5 ... i'm going to guess something you didn't explicitly say in your post .... you're trying to capture analog video, right?
USB captures are mostly worthless. Vegas' own capture utility really only works well with firewire. However, most any card with video inputs will also come with it's own capture utility and that will probably work better with that card than anything else. Try to capture AVI if you can instead of MPEG.
I had a Hauppauge WinTV card in my computer for a long time and with a few bizarre tweaks and numerous reinstalls of the drivers, i was actually able to get Vegas' VidCap program to capture uncompressed AVI through it. It was a pain in the butt though. It was much easier and simpler to use the capture program that Hauppauge had available on their website for free.
Well, I actually posted something related to this a week ago.
You see...Im a private investigator...for legal reasons the video that I take from my sony dv must also transfer the date and time stamp and have it visible on captured video. I have captured several videos from my mini dv camera, but the date and time stamp do not appear to transfer...not there. Ive been told its because the date and time are transfered using analog not digital. When you use a usb or firewire the analog doesnt transfer with it, so you dont get the date and time stamp.
Someone made a good suggestion on the earlier thread about software to process the DV capture files and create a new file with the time and date information 'burnt in' to the video - have you tried this ?
