Vegas and DA-MAX+

Hello,

Well, I just returned from NAB. After visiting both the Matrox and the Sonic Foundry booths, it seemed quite apparent to me that support for the Matrox DigiSuite LE in Vegas is not something that will probably happen. Dang.

I guess on the bright side, I learned about this piece of hardware called DA-MAX+. It has analog and digital inputs/outputs, and interfaces to the PC via IEEE 1394. This means that it should work just fine with Vegas, and that I could get SDI digital video out of my JVC BR-D85U and into Vegas. Of course, the big downside is that it will get converted to 4:1:1 before it gets streamed into Vegas over the IEEE 1394 connector.

Does anyone out there have experience using the DA-MAX+ with Vegas? I am particularly interested to hear from people who might be. I am currently thinking about getting rid of my Matrox DigiSuite alltogether and using the DA-MAX+. That way I can finally say goodbye to Premiere and edit* and work exclusively in Vegas.

But the big concern I have is quality. I mean, right now I get 4:2:2 video from my JVC deck, and I can record back into a digital 4:2:2 format.

Sincerely,

Nate
