<<I now have to use RME's since the majority of hi res AD/DA converters now use the accursed " double wire/smux " crap>>

Hi Pipeline: would you elaborate or explain this a bit more? I'm not sure I know what you're referring to. Thanks!

in order to run at 96khz, a lot of converters out there are using TWO digital ports for 8 channels of 24/96. This is why on so many " 96k " devices with " 24 " in their name, you can only do twelve actual tracks. For instance, the RME 9652 advertises 96khz capability, 52 channels of I/O, 24 bits. At 48 k I can record 24 24bit tracks at a time thru the adat I/o's and another 2 from the spdif. However, at 96 k each adat I/O is only good for four channels instead of eight.

The big bummer here, is that since the ADI's use TDIF and adat, I wish they could have NOT double wired the TDIF port, as the original TASCAM spec was 8 channels at 24/96 on a single cable. Also one of the first TDIF soundcards, the Soundscape Mixtreme ( and still the best IMHO ) uses the original single wire spec

Got it. Thanks Pipeline!

hey pipe,

just checking in to see if youve tried win2k yet.

at this point it looks like something is up with RMEs drivers

just a thought pipe:
have you ever looked into the LynxOne cards? its what ive been using for sometime...pricey, but in my opinion, with all the experience i have with different cards, they write fantastic drivers that behave properly with every app ive ever used...nice and stable and their cards spec out as the best around. i dont know if youre stuck with the RMEs...im just trying to think of a way you can be up and running now.

Not stuck with the rme's but I do need 26 channels simultaneous I/O at 24/96. And the converters I have are double wired, so Im not sure what else is out there. I'll go look into the lynx cards...

their rep was at the nuendo forum answering questions a few months ago, cool guy

Hi Pipeline,

I'm now on touring (Sorry for the delay)

I have problems with Vegas 3, Firewire and my laptop (Dell Inspirion 8200, P4), but my freezes are equal with any sound card (I tried 3).

Now I have a RME Hamerfall DSP (Cardbus) with digiface, but in the past I had a RME 9652 on my old Dual P3 without any problem with Vegas Video 3.

I believe that my problem are the Dell laptop.

Regards

thanks ramallo

my problem may be that I built RME's exact reccomended PC for these. Tom Sailor at Xvision reports that he also is able to run a 9652 with no problems...Im waiting for his setup
