Vegas: Blu-ray to player

I'm thinking of moving from Movie Studio to Pro8 so I can (easily)make blu-ray disks to play back on a set top player. But before I make the investment, I'm hoping you guys can verify for me that this will all work with not too many glitches.

So, let me see if I have this procedure right.
I can go into Vegas Pro and author my HDV or AVCHD footage.
Then I can output to a blu-ray burner.
I can play this blu-ray disk in a set top player and view it on my HD TV.
The result will be much better video quality than I can now get off the DVDs authored in Movie Studio from my HDV cam tapes.

So, how much of this correct or just wishful thinking?

By the way, is there Pro9 due out any time soon?

I have studio.
Of course Vegas pro goes much deeper than studio does, not even in the same league really but still it's a great bang for the buck and a good little extra in the tool box.

Here's a sample video done in Studio 12.

How's the Ulead functionality compared to Vegas? I used their Movie Factory about four years ago, but came over to Vegas for its better feature set. But looking at the new Ulead site, it looks like they've come a long way.
Have you also tried Pinnacle?

I want to thank all of you for your expert help on this. Plus a boost from Lou in another thread.

Finally got my first Bluray to play and the video on my 50 inch plasma is gorgeous. Just stunning.
