It's very easy to do. The message, as I recall, is that Vegas can't find a file, and gives you various options. The simplest is to let Vegas look everywhere for that file. When it does find it, just tell it "OK" and all will be well. If there are other files in that same new location Vegas will ask it it's okay to use them, too.

When you shut down Vegas or that particular veg file, Vegas will ask you if you want to save the changes (i.e. the new location for the avi file(s)). Say "yes" and you're done.

When you open a project after moving it's files, it should give you a dialog box with four choices. One of the choices is to browse to the new directory where the files are stored. Vegas should then be smart enough to find the rest of the files in that directory too.
