I just opened some 3840x2160 and 2560x1440 YouTube videos in Vegas, no problem. I use a free program called "4k Video Downloader".

That's funny, I'm using the same problem to download the video, but when I try to drag the downloaded MP4 to the timeline, I get the circle with the line through it. The only type that will work is 720P.

Are you dragging them to the timeline from the Explorer window in Vegas?

Yep, exactly. And I notice that when you click on the video file, it doesn't show the details at the bottom like it normally does, which I guess means it's unrecognized. Can't understand why though.
