Vegas cannot read frame

My spec: Desktop with AMD II X4 945 processor running at 3GHz,RAM 8GB HDD 500GB.

When I create an event with video footage (1440x1080 resolution) with some still images of different resolution (2400x3200), Vegas cannot read frames, leading to a 'red' frame on the timeline and a 'black' preview space.

Help! Anybody got any idea how to sort this out?
Thank you

Try converting your .jpg to .png first. Sounds like you're pushing your memory.

This was a popular topic a long time ago and some suggested that there is a maximum resolution for photos that works safely.

If you aren't zooming, then resize your photos to the 1440x1080 of your project instead of the gigantic resolution of the originals.
