Vegas Cap. will not find XH A1 2nd time

Connected Canon XH A1 to laptop with Vegas.
XP recognized XH A1.
Vegas captured OK from XH A1(tape)
Disconnected (took some more footage)
Reconnected (to capture)
XP finds the XH A1 as a "DV/C Unit" (or similar)
Vegas Cap. now complains it cannot find the "Microsoft DV/C...." or similar

What?

I removed the DV/C Unit from the system, when reconnected it identifies the XH A1 again as such a device and Vegas will not capture.

It was reported initially as "Canon XH A1" - why this now?

Suggestions how to fix this?

Update:
Connected A1 and capt. HD instead. Worked (with no image, see sep. post). Vegas found the "new" device (and listed it as camcorder - for the first time ever... that didn't happen with A1 in DV-mode)
Turned back to DV and Vegas found it.
Disconn. A1, reconnect A1, Vegas found it. Did so a couple of times. Vegas found it every time (in DV-mode)
???? Que?
Will it work tomorrow? Unstable environment I must say.
As contrast: Vegas finds my cheap Panasonic every time it is conn/disconn. I really A1 fully supported in Vegas?
