Vegas Claims Create Mask from Video File?

I tried several times to create a mask from a video clip using the following filters:

1-black and white
2-contrast
3-inverse

With NO (not even close) to the "masked imgage" shown in the user guide. What am I missing? Does anyone know how to perform this seemingly COMPLEX issue?

I am assuming that you attempt to applay FX to achieve result. With any video clip in timeline I add blac&white FX the clip become b/w. The other goes for other filters. Why does not working in your copy of Vegas?.
In timeline you highlite desire clips or frame and applay FX filter and should work.
