Hi Carl,

FWIW, Vegas has been remarkably stable on the three machines we've
run it on ... even during the beta. Not to say that it doesn't
ocassionaly barf, but I would venture to say that is more the sound
card drivers causing that when it happens to us.

I would suspect the installation of both Vegas and your sound card
drivers ... might want to start over from scratch because what you
are experiencing is out of the ordinary in my experience.

KAC ...

Carl,
Yes, Carl I have stability problems with my Vegas Pro. I crash
mostly when doing concurrent activities ie; saving while playing,
adjusting channel plug-ins during play, adjusting just about anything
except volume changes and cursor position will cause my system to
crash. I have learned to work with it and if I am careful I will
crash only a few times in a 5 to 6 hour session. On some occasion it
will crash for no apparent reason. I have spoke to tech support
about this and they have convinced me that the program is going thru
normal growing pains. It could be a driver issue I do not know.
Many people seem NOT to have this problem. My system config is as
follows:
Celeron 400, 128 meg ram, two IDE Drives (one of them 7200 RPM)
dual 8mb video cards, LX chipset, Windows 98
Adat PCR sound card. My system is freshly formatted with only Acid
Pro 2.0, Sound Forge 4.5 , and the latest version of Vegas Pro
installed.
If you find anything I'd like to hear about it.

It sounds like you have driver and/or general system performance
issues that are causing you grief. Assuming that your computer is
relatively new (300+ mhz, 128+MB), you shouldn't be having intense
problems. Vegas has crashed on me once so far (I've been working with
it for a week). It happened while I was dragging around a loop
segment while playing, real murderous shit on any program. Compared
to Cubase, Vegas is crashless. Audio processing is pretty much the
ultimate test of a machine's general performace. Pretend that your
the program and imagine that you really hate it when your processor or
hard drive has to work hard. It hurts. If I'm in a bad frame of mind
and I go about my projects in a moronic way, making the computer do
stupid things, it will probably crash on you. It gets mad at you for
having no idea what your doing. This applies to all applications and
software.

Defragment your drive often (every few days), make sure your registery
is clean (Norton System Works is a good thing), get all of the latest
drivers and just generally avoid downloading and installing poorly
programmed aps from the internet and the like. My own secrets to
Windows health!

Hope this helps.

Hello.

The most recent version of Vegas that is available is 1.0B, versions
previous to this one were a bit unstable under some certain
circumstances.

If you don't have this version yet, it is available from our website
(http://www.sonicfoundry.com)in the Downloads section.

Thanks.
