Vegas crashing on multi-cam editing, my GPU is already turned off

I have been experiencing consistent crashes while editing multi-camera within Vegas Pro 16. I have turned off GPU acceleration....that was actually one of the first things I did when I set up my system. I am using Windows 10 on a custom i9 7900x 10 core, 64GB of RAM, GeForce 1070 graphics card, and data is on either a RAID6 NAS or a RAID 5 internal SSD array.

This happens consistently when I am editing 4K video files (2160p captured at 100mbps mp4).

And I know I need to stress this...my GPU is off. I never turn it on specifically because it causes crashing....this is a different problem. Anyone else have this issue?

No I have not, but did you use proxyfiles for that 4K footage in VP 16. Pro 17 has now options to decode the footagealso with your GPU hardware help, that for me works also very good.

@David-Schall I can't imagine turning off gpu support. Have you tried the other suggestions for making VP less crash happy such as disabling opencl?

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram
