Hi Jack. I have several, but... I was using the free trial and everything worked great. I then decided to purchase the whole POST suite. Once I activated Vegas Pro, and Sound Forge, Effects 2.0 would no longer open. I get the the splash screen and then the basic window opens and then it disappears. I see that this happened to other with Vegas Effects 1.0 (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-effects-won-t-open-after-activating--120420/#ca761546), but I don't think a solution was ever posted....

@Richard-Libutti I had the exact problem as you are having (although I didn't have the free trial). After much trial and error I found that NewBlue Total FX 360 was the culprit. These are the steps you have to take to isolate the culprit.

Locate the folder ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\’ and create a directory called, say, ‘Temp OFX’. Go to ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins’ and move all the OFX bundles into the folder ‘Temp OFX’ so that ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins’ is empty.
Try launching the application. If it now launches OK, you know that there is an offending plug-in causing the problem.
To isolate this offending plug-in you will need to start with the first bundle in the ‘Temp OFX’ directory and copy it back into ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins’. Check if the application still launches. If it does, copy the next OFX bundle and check again. Do this until the application fails to launch. You now know which bundle is the offending one.
If you require this bundle, you must first delete it from ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins’, then copy it from ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\Temp OFX’ into ‘C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro??.0\OFX Video Plug-ins’, where ?? refers to the version of Vegas Pro you need it for.
Note that, if you need to re-install the plug-in at a later date, you must move it again because the installation will put it into the Common Files folder.

Jack, Thanks I will give that a try. I in fact have New Blue Total Fx 360 installed so that may be it.

@Richard-Libutti You’re welcome. As far as my expert knowledge is concerned, I’ll quote Isaac Newton. “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants”. The giants in this case are all the very knowledgeable contributors of this forum.

I have a similar issue only that Vegas effects 2.0 won't open when Boris FX Continuum is installed. If I remove Boris FX Continuum Vegas Effects runs fine. However, I use Continuum a lot in my production, so I can't live without it. Anyone else had issues with Effects and Continuum?

Bonus info: Vegas Pro 18 runs without any issues with Boris FX Continuum installed

Richard-Libutti wrote on 9/29/2020, 11:22 AM

@Regin-Toftegaard I would try the fix above. NewBlue Total FX 360 still works with VP18 even after moving it out of the common folder, so I'm guessing the same would hold true for Continuum. Not helpful if you're using Continuum in Effects obviously.

I did try your solution, however, the effects disappear in Vegas as well, so that doesn't really work for me :(
