VEGAS ERROR! - A NEW TWIST

Not running German version.
What is a 3COM network card?
How do I find out if I have one?
How do I disable it if and when I find it?
How do I uninstall drivers.

Did search for new drivers or any reference to EL2000 on Microsoft site, but no luck.
Found references to the same problem I have on computer forums, but Geek to me.
I really do think I'm closing in on a problem that has thus far cost me in excess of 15 hundred dollars in consulting fees and new hardward.
This is exciting.
I see sobriety just around the corner!

Sherman,
My Computer \ Properties \ Hardware tab, then Device Manager button.
Look for the Network Adapters and see what's there. There may be a 1394 Net Adapter, you want to identify the other one.
3COM builds a EL2000 pool/folder, and it can get corrupted causing retries to correct itself until it freezes the machine.
If you do have a 3com adapter, go here to find a more recent driver, download it and install it: http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/downloadsindex.jsp

I have two 1394 Netowrk adapters

on VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controlle
on Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Should I nuke one or the other. Do I need two.

Don't know if that's significant.
As for the 3Com Gigabit LOM it is 3C940.
This comes up as newer driver relerased in December of last year 3CRWDR100B-72
Then I'm told to download OCWFR206.
I run that and install it,---but I'm not sure it has replaced old driver.
I'm pulled over ---the hoods up, but I don't know what to do.

Sherman,
You can leave the 1394 alone for now. Some people say to disable them, one less thing 1394 cards have to keep track of.

Not sure if your driver is correct. Still searching for newer driver.

If you can find your original install driver with your card/motherboard, use that.

Thanks Dave.

So got the MOBO CD.
3Com driver there is NIC.
One I have is LOM.
There a difference?
Dan Sherman wrote on 5/13/2006, 9:05 AM
Sorry,
Wrong on that.
Had another look and it is 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940) Driver.
But is swear it said NIC the first time I viewed the MOBO CD.
fldave wrote on 5/13/2006, 9:13 AM
LOM= Lan on Motherboard. Essentially NIC built in.
Dan Sherman wrote on 5/13/2006, 9:25 AM
ok
Reinstalled driver from MOBO CD as you requested.
Should that be it then.
Or should I look for another driver?
Mother Board is Intel 875/865 Chipset Series Re. 52.14 if that's any help

Test .avi render.
Task manager shows from 40 to 100% CPU usage during render.
Pretty simple 2 minute long piece with no FX.
Crapped out at 60% in on first attempt.
Second attempt, success.

I couldn't find any driver specifically for your 3com model without having to sign up with the site. The motherboard manufacturer should have any driver updates if any are available. Also there may be more detailed uninstall/reinstall instructions for the driver.

Does this mean your machine is working better? You can check the Administrative Tools Event log to see if you are getting any more errors.

Edited:
Mr victor (sp) did not mean to hijack your thread this morning. There are a lot of good suggestions above for you to try.
Dan Sherman wrote on 5/13/2006, 11:09 AM
Thanks anyway.
Is there a reason why there is now no audio from Windows Media Player.
Volume control on toolbar appears greyed out.
Related to reinstall of driver or something?
Downloaded WMP again,---but the problem remains.
Dan Sherman wrote on 5/13/2006, 11:54 AM
WMP just doesn't play audio from DVD player.
Maybe a driver or something, or a setting?
Went thorugh WMP troubleshooting sugestions.
No solution there.

Go into media player options and re-select audio. Sometimes media player will shut off the audio.

When you get a chance, run that memtest86 I linked to. Sure does sound like memory, even though you had the problem before you replaced the mobo and memory.
fldave wrote on 5/13/2006, 2:29 PM
Sorry, just got back from an errand.

Does your task bar icon for XP allow you to open up audio properties? Your 3com driver should not have anything to do with the audio.

All else fails, use System Restore to go back to yesterday, it should back all of these changes out, since they appear to not have helped.

Looking back - you said:
"I have my paging file set to: Custom: Initial Size: 2046 MB, Maximum Size: 4092 MB"

I always set mine to a static value. It reduces the overhead of the O/S managing the paging file dynamically. To set the page file to a static value, make th min and max values the same.

Can't hurt to try.

FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've fixed the problem...I saved up some money and went out and bought a new harddrive...that seemed to do the trick...I formatted the drive and installed window xp and then vegas and it finally started up with no error message....halleluyah!!
Thank you all for taking the time to try and help me. I really appreciate it! This forum is a great place!!
fldave wrote on 5/16/2006, 9:32 PM
Good to hear that you finally fixed the problem. Sorry we got on lots of tangents in the effort, but there are so many variables to consider.
JJKizak wrote on 5/17/2006, 6:19 AM
If you double zeroed the old hard drive you might not have had to purchase a new drive. Remember I said that Win2k retains secret info on the drives. Also this is a very big maybe. I probably would have used this excuse to purchase new gigunda hard drives, SATA's, USB externals, the real mouth watering stuff.
