John:

Basically you need hardware to convert the video generated time code
(SMPTE) to MTC that can be brought into your PC using MIDI hardware.
I am not up on the video record side of things - I am working toward
this - but I believe it depends on the video playback hardware and
its capabilities.

Once you get the SMPTE to MTC comming into your system, then you can
have Vegas trigger or chase to this time code.

A heads up: There is a bug in v1 that screws up 29.97 non-drop. We
are working feverishly to solve all sync issues in Vegas - along with
some other problems. These fixes will be available as an update as
soon as they are tested and ready.

Hello Peter,

Are you referring to a box such as MOTU Timepiece A/V? I know you
don't usually recommend gear (other than yours ;). Has anyone in the
lab had Vegas follow a VTR outputting drop frame SMPTE? What gear
are they using?

I know SF is having hard labor giving birth to this product.

Yep. You need some type of device to convert SMPTE to MTC. There are
a lot of there out there. I have used the JLCooper, MOTU, and Opcode
devices successfully.

I will get back to you on any specifics with syncing to VTR SMPTE.

Thanks
Peter
