Vegas for Broadcast

As an Avid editor for several years, I remained a naysayer regarding FCP for advanced broadcast jobs. However, while Avid seems to be standing still, Apple is charging ahead with its system. On the Avid forums, the discussion used to be "Show me what FCP is doing in primetime or theatrical releases".
Well, FCP has answered the call.

What about Vegas? I know there are a lot of users here who are doing professional work. Is anyone here doing any video for broadcast?

One thing that keeps me from purchasing Vegas for the city channel that I manage is the fact that I may need freelance editors down the road when the need arises. When Vegas projects start making a splash on a national level, that's when more people will learn the software.

Well....Vegas currently doesn't have the big screen or broadcast history that either AVID or FCP have. That doesn't diminish it's viability....and it is, and will become more prevalent. Here at NAB, Vegas is in most major manufacturing booths where it's relevant. JVC, Panasonic, BlackMagic, Artbeats, and many others are showing Vegas as part of a product or workflow.
Xpri is opening Vegas timelines in public demo's here, plus several other cool features. Given another year, Vegas will have put a serious dent in a lot of broadcast workflows. Film? It's gonna be a long while before Vegas makes a dent in what Avid and FCP are doing, simply because it's not designed for matchback. For general broadcast....pretty hard to find a better tool in one package.
