Vegas for Location Sound

Hello--

I am just getting into the field of Location Sound Recording/Post Audio. Vegas has been an absolute godsend (though I've had to do some workarounds to get OMFs to work, and lengthy conversions because of Broadcast Waves-- both of which I've had some bumpy roads and hard experiences with).

However, I've recently become aware about TimeCode, and many producers keep asking me if I can sync Vegas to a time-code slate. How would I do this? Is it possible? I know that Vegas has MIDI time code, but I don't exactly know what that means...

-----
Basically. In simple laymans terms, (I am a student and have been learning a billion and one new terms each day), how can I sync Vegas up to a SMPTE time-code slate? Is it possible? I use an Edirol UA-1000 as an AD converter. Or a tascam US-122.

Help would be greatly appreciated, because I feel like I'm a little over my head.

Thanks!

You would need a SMPTE to MIDI TC converter.
However I would not use a laptop or any computer for that matter as a location recorder without a redundant recorder.
I suggest looking at the Sound Devices 744-T as a location recorder.
Vegas is much better suited for post. (Especially 6.0 with AAF support)
