Vegas for Radio Production

Hello, I was going to purchase Acid v.4 within the next few days but then read an article in "Radio and Production" magazine which interviewed Rob Frazier, Commercial Production Director KLSX-FM, L.A. where he stated that he first uses Vegas to put all of the dialogue and sound fx together, bounces that down into a stereo file, imports it into Acid, then writes his background music for the commercial. Why would one use both Acid and Vegas in commercial production? Can you do things differently in Vegas for this type of job that you couldn't do in Acid? (and visa versa?)
Regards,

They certainly do different things. I work this way all (and in the reverse order) all the time.
Acid allows you to create a music bed at a specfic tempo and key. Vegas is meant as an a/v production tool, although it leans more towards the video side now. You can't really loop in Vegas (not at a specific key or tempo anyway), where as that's what Acid is cut out for.

That being said, I REALLY believe that Sony/Sofo need to merge the two programs (and throw in Sound Forge for good measure), into one app....

I should add that at this time, I feel that I am pretty well versed in Acid, so I would like to know what Vegas could do for me in coparison to Acid

When you're not using ACID's looping tools to make music beds, you'll probably find that Vegas is much easier for everything else. Vegas' workspace is much more flexible and easier to cut and paste free-form events such as bits of dialog and sound effects. There is no need to paint events on the timeline; just drop the file on the screen and it's there. You can also mix multiple different files on the same track in Vegas whereas in ACID you need a different track for each file. Vegas allows events to be stretched slower or faster with simple Ctrl-dragging. Vegas works with files as they are without imposing keys or tempos on them.

The list goes on, but basically for working with anything BUT loops for music, Vegas is much more streamlined. ACID is much more cumbersome at all these tasks.
