OK, weve got a wedding SDE comiing up and im wanting to plan ahead... ive got some time in front of me, but id rather start on it now.
Ive got V7 and V8 on my lappy and for safety sake, i'll be runnign V7
The laptop is a Core 2 Duo 1.73ghz with 1gb ram. I find that it renders a little faster than my old sinlge core 3.0gb and with the nvidia 7300, magic bullet 2 renders about 3x realtime...
So a 6 minute SDE should tke about 15 to 18 minutes to render
So my thoughts are to only use MB2 for the filtering and run it all through the GPU, at least this way I wont be surprised with the render times... I do have tonnes of filter chains which ive built over the years, but its ben a very long time since ive done an SDE so i want to do afew practice runs.
I guess the only real way is to do a test run on certain filter chains, because rendering is going to be the biggest factor here, as Im shooting the SDE elements in DV, while the main elements of the wedding itself (non SDE elements) are being shot in HDV with canon A1's
I'll then be using that footage and capture as HDV for elements of the ceremony and some such.. and as we need to create DVD's (as opposed to a cineform AVi file fed from the laptop) downconverting might be somethign were going to need to do when we're done.
I need ot check if I can tap my lappy into their projecotrs as the venue is actually running all teh AV requirements (yay one less thing to think about)
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Like i siad, its been a while since weve doen one of these and in the past we used to bring along a desktop machien fitted with a Matrox RTx100 and do the edit on Premiere.
Now though with the laptops the way they are, were getting very good results, but im still concerned abotu render times...
if anyone has any thoughts, please feel free to pipe in..
Oh and im also using a firestore alongside tape, even though i wdotn trust the firestore, having it there might be a saving grace...
