Vegas for Video?

Does the announcement of Vegas for Video mean that there
will no longer be an audio-only product?

I have to say I find the news a little disheartening for us
audio-only users. Obviously development efforts on the
audio side will need to be diverted to the video side.

The long delay of a 24-bit Sound Forge is discouraging. I
think alot of current Vegas users would appreciate some
kind of statement that would show that between your joint
ventures with media conglomerates and forays into
multimedia-oriented products, that you haven't forgotten
about the audio users. A great way to do this would be to
provide a target date for the next vegas-audio update and a
list of new features & fixes.

Did you download it? It's amazing. There are many new audio features
and I'm sure the Foundry hasn't neglected us. There are envelopes
which follow events - copyable, pasteable, etc. There is a real-time
time-compress feature (like the pitch shift feature) when you ctrl-
drag an event. It ships with XFX 1,2,3 and all DirectX plugins work
in the Track FX. There's a metronome feature, a feature to apply non-
realtime FX to an event as a new take... etc. Check it out. I'm sure
there'll be an Audio 2.0 as well. They won't forget about us.

Here's the real question -- will Vegas 1.0b users be able to upgrade
to Vegas Video? If not, then I'd certainly hope that the new and
improved audio features in Vegas Video will be incorporated in Vegas
2.0 ... and soon! Otherwise, S.F. is going to p.o. a lot of users ...
envelopes that follow events alone is long overdue and I'm gowing
impatient waiting for it!

I also hope that the release of this video product will mean that the
release of Sound Forge 5.0 is coming soon. I'm delaying the purchse
of 24-bit converters because I do not want to use WaveLab, but it
would be my only destrcutive editing option were I to purchase them
now.

Would anyone at S.F. care to share their Vegas 2.0 and Sound Forge
5.0 release schedules? Please?

We will be maintaining the audio-centric version as well, but it will
probably be renamed "Vegas Audio". It's release is slated to
coincide with the release of Vegas Video this summer.

We have typically provided upgrade paths through all our product
lines, so I expect Vegas will offer something similar.

We are painfully aware of the need for 24-bit support in Sound
Forge. The next version is underway, but I don't have any details on
its scheduled release.

Regards,
Jason.
