Vegas-Hang Bug Traced!

I have just heard back from SONY, where they have been able to repro my particular "hang". If you too are using an external Monitor, through firewire, this will be great news for you too as there IS a temporary workaround . This is what they say:

"We were recently able to repro this hang, and figured out the root cause, and will have a fix in the next Vegas Pro 9 update.

SONY Madison is definitely on the case.

Cheers

Grazie

That's confirmation there's at least one more update coming! Yippee!

Thx 4 sharing Grazie!

Will try that immediately!! In my desperation I would try anything, but this is more realistic than woodoo - that I have not yet tried ;) But almost everything else. . .

Christian

Try it Christian. I have had it running to my External on a loop and no hang yet. Scrubbing, rubbing and grubbing ain't making it hang.

Hey Grazie I really appriciate your following up on the lockups that occurred due to firewire preview. I saw the Sony comments about turning off the sync offset to prevent the freezing till the fix comes in the next update. I preview constantly so the freezing made 9 virtually unusable for me and I was very frustrated and mad about V9 and didn't understand why everyone wasn't clamoring about it. It must not be affecting all users which is strange to me. Anyway, now I can edit away happily. Thanks again.

I tried this briefly and it seemed to make things worse, though it was a short test and Windows7 seems to hang for a minute on its own sometimes with or without Vegas running.

I will try it again and see.

Well, my crashes with V9 were not the same as this, but always seemed to centre on the trimmer window, with .m2t files (captured with the HDV scene capture set to 'on'). The ragged ends of the scenes always showed as green. After setting the sync to '0' in prefs, they are now coloured black, and V9 has been crash free for the whole day today! Does anyone know the significance of what the different colours mean?
