Vegas has suddenly stopped writing beyond 4GB.

Here is a new one. I use W98SE and VV3 and VV4 have always created seamless multiple 4GB rendered files. All of a sudden it stopped. I tried rendering twice and it generated an error at 4GB and wouldn't write a second one.
I guess I should re-install it, but that will make the 4th time I had to re-install VV4. The other three times it was because it created a gigantic size "File" menu which stretched across the screen when you dropped it down. Went away when I re-installed it.

Hopefully someone has seen this happen before with Vegas and W98SE in terms of not writing beyond 4GB during a render. Specs were the normal NTSC DV and I have rendered the same file three times already without this problem. It's the one I have been posting about in other threads. Since it stops at 3.99 GB, it has to have something to do with Vegas writing multiple 4GB files.

got your answer
you HAVE to upgrade to at least Win 2000
Win 98 is Fat 32 based and cannot handle more than 4 GB (3.99GB) per file
you can upgrade to Win XP or 2000
or you can section off your video
Unfortuantely thats all that can be done

Did you just now tell it to include the markers in the file?

Thanks, but W98SE has been working just fine up until today. The program stopped writing MULTIPLE 4GB files which it has been doing with no problem all along. It has been doing it with this exact same file without a problem three times already.

Have been all along. Does that have an affect? I can try it again with that feature unchecked.

There is a marker bug with FAT32 drives- don't save the markers and you'll be able to render chained files with FAT32 as before. This will be fixed in the next rev of Vegas.

I found this bug in V4 about 2-3 weeks ago. SoFo tested it and confirmed. This problem occurs with Win98SE. When you render, be sure you do not save markers in the media file. The markers can still exist on your timeline, but you can't include them in the render process. If you do, it will fail everytime. SoFo said they will fix the problem in an upcoming release.

Thanks,

It's rendering fine now. What happened was that I rendered the AVI files first, then I set up the markers as chapter points with names and rendered the files as Mpeg2 for DVDA. The chapter points were automatically set up with the names from the markers.
I changed something on the timeline and re-rendered the Mpeg 2 files and then went back to re-render the AVI files. I didn't have markers the first time around so it didn't cause a problem. This time around they were left there and I was unaware of the bug.

It is well beyond the 4GB limit now and rendering nicely with 3 hours left to go.

Thanks for all the input.
