bruceo,
Sure sounds like your mpeg2 files are corrupt, curious on the brand & type of tapes your using in your hd-cams.
You may want to take a look at VideoRedo or Womble to rebuild the mpeg2 files and fix them.

"Blink... I just treid HDVsplit on this machine and it captured a tape fully that vegas capture would forcibly split into 3 separate files. When I dropped the HDV split file on the timeline the peaks built with no problem, but the video was empty.... Any clue on this? The same tape that vegas captures into 3 files work ok video wise but one of them locks up vegas building peaks."

Can't say I have ever seen this before. HDVsplit works great for me. I use it mainly because Vegas has problems scene splitting HDV.

I know that when Vegas splits a file that it is not supposed to, it is usually because it has run into trouble reading from whatever you are capturing from. Are you sure that the original video is good?

There is nothing wrong with the tapes, mpeg2 files or anything. I am posting another thread that I tried HDV split on the same files and it captured all of the tapes in their entirety with only 1 tape having an issue. It seems with all these projects the issues were created by the built in HDV capture app
