Vegas hogging up the memory..

Julius_ wrote on 9/22/2017, 10:32 AM

Hi,

After opening up my project, more often than not, vegas is chewing up my memory, and thus making the system slugglish..to the point that I have to shut down Vegas and re-start.

In this video, I have nothing that is processing and you see Vegas eating away my memory

Also, V15 takes forever to open up my projects...in V13 it takes about 1 minute to fully open my project and display my timeline with the clips...in V15 it takes 4-5 minutes!! and I have to constantly close the window to re-start.

My settings:

I have a AMD R9 390 (V17.9.1)

I might revert back to V13 for future projects..

Julius_: I have a similar slowdown problem with v15, but the so4compoundplug-dll backout doesn't help. If you use the pan/crop tool very much, would you let me know if it slows down for you? After 30 minutes or so, maybe 10 crops, it takes 5 seconds to open the window, and refresh of the crop window while you move it around takes about 1-2 seconds. So I'm doing a lot of restarting of Vegas v15. It may not be graphic card related because it doesn't matter if my GPU card is selected in video preferences or not. Maybe a .NET framework issue, since it seems UI related. I don't know what version V15 likes or what version I have. Windows shows C library versions, but I'm not sure that's the same as .NET. My previous version 13 might have slowed down a little, but nothing like this. Oh, one last thing, when GPU is selected there is a thread burned (13% CPU on my 8 thread 8350), but it doesn't make this pan/crop tool operation any worse.

I have a few clips with pan/crop..about 4 or 5 so not that much (out of 1000 clips on the timeline).

It seems to be stable for me now....I did have a problem rendering..I had to put the dynamic ram to 0 and turn off GPU.

I'll do a few tests and see what I get with pan crop and repeat it on a few more clips (unless you want to give me a veg file with generated media that has crop I can test it)

A fast test..put 20 clips, did a zoom in pan/crop..in Best preview mode it is jittery, but plays well in Best Auto mode.

Thanks for testing this, Julius_. So you didn't find the pan/crop tool opening slower, and slower to refresh the crop box as you move it around? It's not the playback frame rate that gets slower, just the pan/crop tool.

No problem....

I don't see any slow downs in pan/crop...I placed 25 clips in total..and each clip I did a pan/crop,,didn't notice any slowness at all.

Sorry!

Thanks, Julius_. I just ordered an AMD R9 Fury x to replace my Nvidia 750ti, so perhaps that will help. I also only have 8GB RAM. What do you have?

I have 32GB ram (system memory), and 8GB on my R9 390 (DDR5) V17.9.1
