Vegas Interface and Color Scheme

CVM wrote on 12/18/2007, 6:16 PM
Sony... I love and am dedicated to the workflow of Vegas... I will never change. BUT... I would love to see the interface and color scheme change dramatically. Vegas NEEDS a new look... new subdued colors, new modern fonts, cooler buttons, etc.

I just downloaded Digital Juice Juicer 3 software for the new JumpBacks I bought... the interface is beautiful! Dark, rich-looking, slightly futuristic, and very professional. It would be great if Vegas could get a COMPLETE visual make-over to look similar to this. Please consider this for future versions of the software.

Somebody please tell me how to attach an image to my post so I can show you what I'm talking about.

Thanks!

Easy to change, just use a theme. There are several free themes at the VASST Vegas portal.

Can't seem to find them... I located Version 5 themes, but when clicked on, the page was gone. Thoughts? Links?

[url=http://www.vasst.com/?v=training/Themes/themesnew.htm]Is where they're located. I just tested the links, they're working.

Thanks... I found them... but they are not what I was looking for in a solution. True, they did fill the need for a different color scheme, but did nothing to modernize or improve the professional look (similar to unnamed competitors out there). Plus, they modified my entire computer. No good.

Thanks, though... I always appreciate the help on this forum.

Back to my question... how do I attach a JPG to my post?

Sticky Topic #4 shows how to code files for the Forum. I believe it covers linking to .jpg files.

I don't understand the need to "modernize or improve the professional look (similar to unnamed competitors out there.") Perhaps to change background colors to relieve eye strain, but why else?

I edit with as many as four to six clients a week, week in and week out and I've never had one look at my monitors and say "Boy, it's a shame your editing program doesn't look more professional; it really needs modernizing." Most say "Gee, what a cool program! What is it?"

Personally, I feel a more highly contrasted text box and less contrasted timeline, preview window, etc are less taxing on my eyes, but that's entirely personal preference.

Some of the options in the menus are damn hard to tell if they're on or off, like QTF.

Clients do notice, mine don't care much but I don't charge much either. There's a connection there.

Some might say that if they aren't watching the playback you aren't holding their attention, and if they're watching you work maybe they're trying to figure out if they can do it themselves.

But I'm all for an individually themed Vegas, just so long as I don't have to theme all of Windows. I actually like the idea of being able to tell which windows belong to Vegas, especially when I've got 8-10 programs open. Course, alt+tab sorts it out just fine.

The key is for Vegas to be themeable, because many people don't want to change the interface. So they should get that choice.

And I think that there are much more important things to do with Vegas development than themes.

Definitely agree about the switches in the menues. I'd love to have a checkmark in front of them when they're active. The current barely-slightly-almost-darker-shade-of-grey is nearly impossible to distinguish from the kinda-but-not-really-smidgen-lighter-shade-of-grey. I find myself clicking them several times trying to see the difference and decide which way they are set.

Other than that, Vegas is very professional looking because it presents a interface that is clear, organized, easy to use, and i don't embarass myself in front of clients poking around trying to find a feature that isn't in-your-face obvious, like all of Vegas' features are (except for the color of the menu toggles). Remember, a professional is someone who gets the work done competently, and Vegas facilitates that like no other NLE out there, largely because if it's straightforward interface.
