Edit: Alright, apparently the audio FX compression not changing is probably not related to the other audio FX issues I'm having. It seems the problem was, sometimes while changing the compression "Threshold", the "Amount" would get changed to x1 (instead of Inf. which is what I was starting at). I'm not quite sure why, but it came up as a false flag with all the other audio FX issues (which are still there but sometimes hard to duplicate).
Original Post:
Hi, been a user of Movie Studio Platinum for a handful of years now, but this issue has popped up quite a bit in 14. Sometimes when I add a certain audio FX on a track or event like reverb or distortion and try to change the audio FX in case I didn't like the result, the FX will get stuck. Sometimes, while trying to preview the track, the audio FX might keep duplicating itself until I turn off the FX. Sometimes, even after turning off or deleting the FX, the currently applied amount of audio FX (distortion, reverb, etc.) will still be there. Generally, restarting the program will fix this issue but not always. Currently, I was trying to add compression to a track and when trying to get the desired level, it's now stuck not applying any compression. I've tried restarting the program, removing all FX and reapplying it, changing the default device to anything else that still functions, changing the resample and stretch quality in Project Properties from Best to Preview, and using the Clean-Up Project Media in the Tools tab (which, I have no idea if that's helped before or does anything with that, but it seems it might after restarting the program).
In short, my issue is that audio FX will sometimes get stuck on and/or will not apply properly after trying to change them again.
I'm not entirely sure what the issue might be with my hardware as this happened on my Intel i7-4790k and still happens on my AMD R7 1700. I generally try to use GPU rendering with my Sapphire R9 390 (consistent in both builds) as it does seem to help the smoothness of playback and speed of renders, but I might try removing legacy GPU acceleration (as that needs to be on to use my GPU). My audio device is Realtek (built into the motherboard) and I've tried using the Realtek ASIO before (as I had issues with my playback devices before as it was). I can't think of many other similarties in hardware besides my drive configuration, which is an M.2 500GB WD Blue SSD running over SATA (I normally use it to preview and render footage as it seems to have less issues with slowdowns than my mechanical drives). I'll probably try to reset the program to its defaults (I'm pretty sure I've done this before, but I want to cover all my bases at this point). I'm also going to try more of a clean boot and probably and see if any programs are interfering at this point (as I do know in the past certain programs like Raptr interfered with things like GPU acceleration). Most I could think would be messenger programs I leave open like Discord or Twitch as they might be trying to utilize my audio device but I believe these were off when I was first trying earlier. I'll probably also look into the properties of the track itself and see if anything in there changes and report back. I normally try to work on my videos in Preview mode (as well as render) as it seems most of my content benefits from this in regards towards quality and smoothness of previewing and rendering the project (which, I will probably also try more on this as well).
Right now, I'm mostly looking for some ideas on what settings I can try that might help me troubleshoot audio problems. Obviously, I have a few ideas already but in case I can't figure out what's affecting what, I wanted to have more to come back to and maybe just give some feedback on this issue as I didn't have it so much before with Movie Studio 13 Platinum. I also can't be sure that anything I do will be a permanent fix as these issues are intermittent so I want to try and get some ideas going. Thanks for help in advance! Sorry if this is a little garbled at the moment as well. I'm very tired today.
Sincerely, Jason...
