Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum freezes when I try to open my projects!

Hi,

I am having some trouble opening my projects i've been editing in Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum (Build 148), if someone can help me come to a solution?

I have been trying to open my Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum projects but the software just freezes, and most of the buttons are unresponsive.

One of these projects i opened got to 80% and i initially thought maybe because its a blu ray project it was big so i thought i should wait a bit longer. But then it stayed at 80% for the next 2 hours before i thought i should try to cancel it and exit the software, but when i tried exiting the software i got a window saying: “A Background operation is currently in progress. Movie Studio Platinum cannot shut down until this operation is complete or cancelled. Would you like to cancel this operation?”

And i clicked yes to cancel it and the window dissapeared but nothing happened, the software was still on the screen and appeared to have frozen.

I ended up having to use Task Manager to end the process.

I have tried 2 different projects, one of them is a bluray project and the other is just a dvd project, both won't open.

Every so often i might be able to get a project to open, and i will be able to edit it fine, but once i exit the software and try to open a project again, most the time i get nothing.

I have only not long ago upgraded to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14 about 2 months ago, from Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 which i have used for years, and so whilst i'm experienced enough to use the software effectively, i honestly am a bit lost when its come to problems like this.

I have tried contacting Magix Support but i feel like i'm just going around in circles playing email tag, and when i do get a response, its not helpful at all. It would be heaps easier if there was a number i could call and resolve the issue over the phone, but there is'nt. So i thought the forum here would be my next best bet.

So if someone could help me i would greatly appreciate it ^_^

I am using an MSI laptop with a GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card with driver version 388.00, and running windows 10, if that helps.

Thanks!

As Cornico says, memory is paramount when dealing with video. GPU acceleration is often a reason for crashes, so you might try to disable it in the preferences. Also MS seems to do a lot of disk i/o when opening clips, so you could try and move your project to an SSD if you have it available. However, if this happens with all your projects, it may be that some part of the application has become corrupted. You could try and de-install it, run a disk check and then install it again.
