Vegas Movie Studio 8 crash at start up

Ok, I checked like a gazillion of these forum posts and even called tech support and got nowhere on this. the plugin dll fix did nothing for me. but guess what! I typed this issue into Youtube of all places and got the REAL fix for this issue and it works on studio 8 and Pro 8.

one simple change Windows Vista 32 bit

Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Advanced> Performance Settings>Data Execution Prevention (DEP)>Turn On DEP for all Programs EXCEPT>add the directory to Vegas.exe

Don't know about DEP, maybe disabling it may cause other problems later on.
When you start VMS, it loads your latest project. If something is wrong with it, it may crash Vegas.
Have you tried starting Vegas with 'factory settings' only? Hold CTRL+Shift while starting up Vegas. Note/warning: you will lose all your personal settings and saved customized effects etcetera.
VMS8 MUST work under Windows Vista.

I had VMS 8 crash when opening "Project Media" in the middle of a project.
1.5 days lost .
Even if i opened an old project this it crashed

Your 2 Finger salute cured it (Hold CTRL+Shift while starting up Vegas)
