Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0 keeps crashing

I haven't had Vegas for too long but I have made a couple of projects with it. However it does not like the current one and keeps crashing when I try to load it. If I reduce the pieces being displayed under "View," I can keep it from crashes when it tries to render the file.
I went for a unique approach with the project though, I have been rendering pieces of it and now I am reassembling them into one whole project and trying to render that. (Track motion on each section that involved different video sizes to avoid letterboxing; ended up with 29 pieces with perfect fits in most cases since I did not adjust aspect ratio) However now it crashes whenever I open this.
I thought one of the files was corrupted (still a possibility) but by renaming the source file folder I forced it to add files individually and worked fine. But when it came together, then it crashed. With the following error message:

Any ideas? Any further information needed?

I suppose I could try and make three separate videos since it has three subtopics but I'd prefer this to be one long nearly 15 minute video that would fit Youtube's policy on maximum video length.

Kernel errors can be serious. Sometimes a glitch, sometimes worse.

chkdsk shows no problems.

I have Windows XP SP3. That wmvdecod crash sounds the same though. Maybe I should post my error message over there and see if they think a similar hotfix could be applied to XP.

Thanks.

I've been posting in the Windows forums and trying what they recommended. Uninstalling and reinstalling failed to work. Just as restarting the computer doesn't tend to work.

Is there an update to Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0 that might fix this? I'm using 9.0c (build 30) at the moment. Seems the most up to date.

So you're saying that you have no trouble starting new projects but you can't open this old one?

If so, what are the project properties of this old project? What model of camcorder did your video come from and what format and resolution is it?

How fast is your processor and how much RAM do you have? How much free space is on your C drive?

When did you last go to Windows Update and manually download the non-critical updates?

Your questions made go back and try again to see if I could get things to work. I managed to render some files together as a test. I think it is working better now that I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. So it must be that project that is crashing Vegas. I thought it was a deeper problem. I tried to weed out corrupt files with a renaming of the source file and adding them back in piece by piece to see which one would crash it. None of them did so until after I started to render them.

I think I'm going to keep adding and dropping files and starting a render. If it doesn't work, I know that portion must have the corrupt file. If it does work then I know I haven't included a corrupted file. That will take a lot of trial and error but meh. Do you have any ideas for how to weed out corrupt files besides that?

Video and audio were WMV files. 29. I think rendering that many pieces was asking for trouble and made some corrupt in their rendering process.

52 GB free space on the C drive, dual core 2.20 GHz with 2GB RAM.

I'll check for updates, that could help in any case. Thanks for your help. You pushed me to check it again to try and work it out. Maybe I'll be able to post that this is all resolved soon.

In the month that has passed, I have rendered other projects.

This one still won't work. Despite my having changed it drastically and having rebuilt it. I'm guessing its allergic to some file type but I've been converting files to try and fix this and still no luck.

People keep telling me WMV files are stable but I believe those are what are screwing it all up. So I'm going to convert them to AVI files and see if that works.

Some files appear in the timeline pink tinged. Is that Vegas telling me those files are corrupted? If this is an issue of corruption (and it seems to be since I've moved the files to new projects and they still crash), how do I fix it?
