DNxHD is MOV, but not the kind of MOV that crashes and burns in older versions of Vegas. :-)

so it wont screw up even though i have PC not a mac?

also how can i tell for sure if it has been done right and i have lost no quality?
(except for the files with wrong frame rate)

what form of the codec DNxHD should i use

This is discussed in the first link I gave you that shows how to export with intermediate codecs. As for loss of quality, that's why you use intermediate codecs, so you won't lose any -- as long as your project/exporting settings are set properly to reflect your source footage.

I can not find out which one is DNxHD
could you give an example of what it would be called in program

the only format options that look new are the "Huffyuv" codecs

DNxHD is under the Quicktime exporting option. You select it there as one of the offered codecs. Of course, it requires you install it first, it doesn't come by default in AE. http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/attach/AvidCodecsLE234Win.zip

I know Ive downloaded it already and i do not see anything that says DNxHD

You select the Quicktime exporting format, and when you go "advanced" or "customize" (or whatever the naming convention is in AE), you select the Avid DNxHD codec from a list of many Quicktime codecs. If the codec was installed properly then it's there. You just need to find it. I can't help more on this I'm afraid since I don't have AE in front of me right now.

If you live in the Bay Area maybe you or I can visit and help you though it.

Nope, no where near there, I happen to be in Arkansas surrounded by hicks (although they are my hicks) which might explain why I am so desperate for help with technology >_<

If nothing else there is still "uncompressed UYVY 422 8bit", It might not be the preferred option, but it still beats the heck out of the alternatives. Plus if what ya tell me is true I still will not be sacrificing quality ^_^

Furthermore if you want I will contact you via the method of your choice when I finish the video and put it on youtube so that you can see your name in the credits.

I tested exporting the file as a wmv as you recommended here-> http://eugenia.queru.com/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/

For the most part the quality was pretty good but the background changed from black to grey, do you know why?
Eugenia wrote on 3/30/2011, 5:16 PM
That URL with exporting tips was for the FINAL export, for delivery purposes, not for intermediate ones. You lost a ton of quality by exporting in WMV in that step. As for the black to grey, it's just different gamma settings on different apps. But please use an intermediate codec to export from AE, not a delivery. You use that tutorial only at the end.
