Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10

I have downloaded the above along with DVD Architecture 5.0 and Souind Forge Studio 10. I already had Movie Studio Studio 8 with DVD Architecture 4.5 and Sound Forge Studio 9. I did have problems downloading Vegas as Norton came up with a warning and promptly deleted the file. I redownloaded it after turning off Norton. It downloaded successfully. I installed the programme and started to run it. It registered with Sony okay and proceeded to load. At the end of the load it came up with an error message "Failed to initialize script host". I contacted Sony about this, to receive the next day an email explaining how to fix this. two methods were given , a simple one and a more complex one. I have tried both methods but the error message still comes up. Any suggestions apart from a complete new reinstall of Vista, which i don't want to do. It is obviously a common problem so why Sony haven't fixed it I don't know?
Cheers and thanks in advance if anyone can come up with an answer.

Not sure if this will help; it was one of the auto responses that Sony sent me for a different issue (needless to say it didn't help me). Also, you may want to try getting the software disc from Sony; that's what I did for VMS 9 and it loaded without any trouble. Here's the auto response; i see the links didn't copy over so you may need to go the Sony support site:

**NORTON INTERNET SECURITY FLAGS AND DELETES DOWNLOADED PROGRAMS**
Question
When I attempt to download and install my Sony Creative Software program, Norton Internet Security indicates that it is a threat to my system, then deletes the file. Does this program contain a virus?
Answer

Absolutely not! Sony Creative Software programs do not contain any malicious software. Our software programs are tested extensively and Microsoft Windows certified. The warning message you are seeing is the result of an issue within the Norton Internet Security software which has been addressed on Norton's website.

We are working with Norton to ensure that our software no longer gets falsely tagged as malicious. In the meantime, please follow the suggestions given by Norton representatives to work around the issue.

Ah, the dreaded false positive.

I had this happen when upgrading a different application when I had AVG Free. The program had to be entered into the Exceptions list to work.

I've since switched to Microsoft Security Essentials for my antivirus and antimalware checking. It's not bloatware like all the rest have become. It's very efficient with little overhead.

I had the same problem re: Norton . It really isn't a issue and you just have to add the file (or download folder) to an exclusion list.

If you read the details of the "threat" clearly, it just says that it doesn't know enough about the file - eg. not many people have downloaded it and told Norton about it.

I still have not got it to work and decided to go back to my old programmes. guess what, Vegas Movie Studio V8.0 will not work properly now either. It can't render mpg or avi, it goes to 99% and sticks and what it does render does not have any sound. I use these programmes a lot so this is becoming more than an annoyance.

I have the same issue. Tech support just sent me to their 2 links with using msconfig, uninstalling c++ Components, etc., etc. It did not work. I think it's a .Net issue. However in Windows 7 it is part of the OS and I'm not having any luck removing it. It's in the Windows features section of the control panel, but when I try to uncheck .Net, after rebooting I get the "Failure configuring windows features, reverting changes" message.

Upon reinstalling 9b, the installer "ended prematurely" but at least it still works. VMS 10 is a no go on my machine. Magix installs and runs, Adobe Premiere Elements installs and works, Vegas 10 does not. Which sucks because the other programs suck. If reinstalling the OS and all my other programs and settings is what it takes, then I'm not doing it. It's not worth the effort. I even ran a .Net cleanup tool and that didn't work either. Vegas 10 will simply not run.

My only option may be to run it in a virtual machine. But what's the performance hit? VMWare at least supports DirectX 9.

Edit: I am running Symantec Endpoint Protection, but have it disabled during all my failed attempts to get Vegas working.

After days, I've finally gotten it to work!

The problem did lie with .Net. Unfortunately since it's a component of 7, if it gets corrupted you are pretty much screwed - unless you have another machine handy. I noticed when I ran the .Net verification tool that it reported some missing files.

After unsuccessful attempts to repair .Net, I decided to copy files (skip the existing ones) from another machine to the C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net folder.

And viola, the missing files were filled in and Vegas 10 started up!

You may need to change the folder permission to be able to copy into them. That's a bit tricky since only TrustedInstaller has access. To get around that, take ownership of the folder and then after closing down the permissions window, open it again and add yourself.

Of course if you don't have another machine with the same O/S on it, that could prove troublesome.
