Vegas Movie Studio will not start completely

Hi folks,

I'm having a problem running Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b (build 92). I'm working with the full purchased downloadable version. I've scoured the forums and the next-to-useless "troubleshooting" section to no avail, so I'm hoping someone here has had this particular problem.

When I try to start Vegas, I get this error message:

An error occured starting Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest. Failed to initialize script host.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (twice). I have also tried re-downloading, thinking I may have gotten a corrupt file the first time. When I uninstalled, I removed everything, even registry entries.

I am running XP SP2, 3.2GHz Celeron, 2GB RAM, so I think I'm meeting the minimum system requirements as listed on Sony's site.

Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks in advance for any help!

Sorry to hear that. Since you're buying it, will you receive a CD?
I'm not sure if it'll make any difference, did you try to download the 9.0a first and install and then update to 9.0b?

Actually the software was purchased for me by a client, so I don't know if multiple versions were made available to him when he purchased or not, but I'll be sure to ask.

Try deleting this

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config

This fixed the script error on my machine (Win 7 x64 HP). Thank God for Trendnet's Secure View detailed error message.

Just to play it safe, I'd suggest either renaming or moving to a different directory the machine.config file mentioned in the previous post, rather than deleting it outright. If that doesn't solve your problem, you will still have the ability to restore it. You need to be very careful messing with anything in the C:\Windows directory or its subdirectories.
