vegas performing illegal ops

The first time this started happening, I didn't think much
of it. I fdisk'd, formated and reloaded 98. After I
installed my video drivers for my agp aopen 8 meg vid card
and set the resolution to 1024x780? or something like that,
and I installed vegas 2.0a, it started happening again, and
then other things started crashing. I would open up 'my
computer' and it would perform an illegal operation. This
must be a conflict with my vid card.

Any recomendations to a good stable video card to use?
anyone else had problems with the aopen agp cards?

or - is it something else entirely?

any help would be great!!!

thanks in advance.
