Vegas post: Vegas Effects only demo version

jeffrey-g wrote on 8/15/2019, 12:13 AM

I have Vegas Post, but when I use Vegas Effects I only get the demo version of the software. Any video I edit in Vegas Post using Vegas Effects puts a huge water mark on the video. I don't get a water mark in Vegas 17, just when I use Vegas Effects in Vegas 17.
I have installed and uninstalled Vegas Post three times now and I STILL only get the demo version of Vegas Effects.
This was a complementary copy of Vegas Post. Here is a copy of the activation email (without keys that were sent with the email)
"Due to your registration at this years media motion ball,VEGAS Creative Software and FXhome are happy to give you free access to your new creative future.

Please find your complimentary copy of VEGAS POST below:"

I follow the link and use the key provided in the email I received from Magix.
Is a 'complementary copy' just a demo version? If so why isn't it called a demo version?

I believe the procedure is as follows. Register the Vegas Pro version as usual. Then place a video on the timeline. Right click on it and attempt to use Vegas Effects and the installation for the other Post software will complete.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly - I saw an official installation video somewhere on Facebook I think but I can't seem to track it down

Yes thanks I've tried that and Vegas Effects didn't registry. I'll try again over the weekend.

Thank you for the reply.

Choose "Deactivate Vegas pro 17" (from help menu) - restart, and in activation window make sure that you don't just click "OK" (you probably have the Vegas pro 17 serial code), delete that code and insert the Vegas Post code. Then the other programs will be activated as well.

The better software for FX is always After Effect, not Vegas Effect, not Hitfilm

Marco. wrote on 8/15/2019, 12:51 PM

This isn't true and a global comment like this doesn't make too much sense. It totally depends on what exactly you're gonna do with the FX tool, e.g. the build-in particle system of After Effects is way behind the build-in particle system of HitFilm.

@jeffrey-g any luck yet? I purchased the upgrade to vegas post yesterday, but I have the same issue, vegas effects runs in demo mode. Tried everything and I am quite computer savvy. What a cluster****. And I am not the only one, even Gary admits it affects some people...

@jeffrey-g @bitman Have you tried following hint:

If you are running into the trial message "Created with the demo version of VEGAS EFFECTS" - this can be resolved by running the program as administrator.

bitman wrote on 9/6/2019, 5:39 AM

@Vegas_Sebastian After launching Vegas in admistrative mode, vegas effects tries to launch, comes up, and disappears (I suppose it crashed). Subsequent vegas starts in normal mode exhibit the same behaviour now...

Back to uninstall / re-install again? I deactivated, licence, wiped clean and reinstalled so many times now...

@bitman Yeah I got it working. I uninstalled it and removed ALL and ANY file associated with Vegas Effects then reinstalled it.
I tried just uninstalling and reinstalling Effects at first but I still got the trial/demo version. It wasn't until I removed all files and folders for Vegas Effects that the reinstall gave me the option to register the software again.
I didn't get a key or anything, just instructions on how to activate the software.
Vegas Image worked and Vegas17 (well it installed after I removed my BCC Plugins but it still crashes anyway).
Pathetic start for Vegas Post for me... really thinking of bumping Vegas. It's gone down hill and is unreliable.

I managed to get some info from the windows event viewer logs, after launching vegas 17 in administrator mode, I maybe do not get the demo issue anymore. I cannot see if the demo issue persists because it is getting worse, the vegas effects APP just crashes at launch (even if launched stand alone) it is clearly an APP crash according the windows event viewer logs:

I also see BCC continuum in the log data, maybe clashing with vegas post ???

I do have the latest full continuum installed, normally not an issue with vegas 17.
