Vegas Pro 11 Build 700/701 600 Series Support?

Today Sony finally released an update for Vegas Pro 11 which I installed. For the past 6 months I have been having an issue with getting GPU acceleration to work using my NVIDIA GTX 680 along with all kinds of crashing and problems and was waiting for an update to add support for 600 series cards. I read through the release notes for this update and I don't see anything that states it has added support for 600 series NVIDIA graphics cards. From what I understand the issue lies is in the new Kepler architecture that the 600 series cards use. I literally ordered and received a GTX 580 2 days ago because of the lack of support I was getting for the GTX 680 and replaced it in my machine. It fixed all of the issues I was having, but it did set me back a couple hundred dollars for no reason and ultimately downgraded my computer and I now have a GTX 680 laying around doing absolutely nothing. If I were to put the 680 back into my computer with this new update will it work or will I be wasting my time? Has anyone tested editing, exporting, and GPU acceleration with a 600 series card using the new Build 700 or 701 update?

Thanks!

Below is a summary by version build of what SCS indicates are GPU and videocard driver based fixes - I note that the latest build 700/701 calls out a large number of general fixes but it seems to address the GPU type of concern now less than they had two version builds ago.

GPU related fixes called out in version builds 700/701:
Reduced memory requirements of GPU-accelerated Radial Blur, which improves performance and stability.
Fixed incorrect output that could occur when GPU processing is not enabled and the Blur amount is greater than zero in the Chroma Keyer effect.
Worked around an issue in Intel OpenCL driver 9.17.10.2817 that could cause a crash on certain machines.

GPU related fixes called out in version builds 682/683:
Fixed a crash or hang that could occur when switching between Video FX and Compositors windows with certain OFX plug-ins. Fixed a hang that could occur with Spiral, Split, Squeeze, and Zoom transitions on certain NVIDIA GPUs.

GPU related fixes called out in version builds 594/595:
Fixed pixel aspect ratio handling with the GPU-accelerated Linear Blur effect. Fixed alpha-channel handling in the GPU-accelerated Levels effect. Fixed alpha channel handling in the GPU-accelerated HSL Adjust effect. Fixed the text background for the GPU-accelerated Timecode to use solid black instead of transparent alpha. Fixed an issue that could cause the GPU-accelerated White Balance effect to create colors slightly off.
Fixed incorrect output for Clock Wipe when in 32-bit floating-point video mode without GPU acceleration. Fixed incorrect alpha channel for Glow when running without GPU acceleration. Fixed incorrect output for Fill Light when in 32-bit floating point video mode without GPU acceleration.

I'm wondering if anyone else noted that with the recent 701 update, the stability of GPU acceleration has gone from bad to even worse??

VP11 freezes completely when GPU acceleration is switched on, no matter if the program is being run in Win7 compatibility mode or not. Just trying to preview a HD project that has one MXF file while GPU acceleration is enabled will cause entire Vegas to freeze so badly that I can't even submit a crash report.

My graphics card is AMD FirePro v7900 -- yep, one of those fancy cards that were endorsed by Sony to be used with Vegas Pro 11 for "maximum performance" .
Running on Win7/64bit with the latest AMD retail drivers (8.982.2-120711a-143290C-Retail).

It appears that the GPU problems in build 700/701 are related to the latest cutting edge video cards. I have an older nVidia GTS-250 with the v306.23 driver. This release of SVP v11, combined with my HW & driver is the first time I can reliably use GPU acceleration for both previewing and rendering video in Sony Vegas.

I did a test render on an old slideshow project of mine that has ~1100 images of various high and low resolutions, and numerous FX and Pan/Crop motions applied to each. It took just over 2 hrs to render the project. Before this new release, my system took about 3 hrs to render the same project.

Here is the general recommendation for GPU issue going forward for VegasPro12: Supported NVIDIA, AMD/ATI, or Intel GPU with at least 512 MB of memory (for GPU-accelerated AVC rendering and video processing):

NVIDIA
Requires a CUDA-enabled GPU and driver 270.xx or later.
GeForce GPUs: GeForce GTX 4xx Series or higher (or GeForce GT 2xx Series or higher with driver 297.03 or later).
Quadro GPUs: Quadro 600 or higher (or Quadro FX 1700 or higher with driver 297.03 or later).
NVIDIA recommends NVIDIA Quadro for professional applications and recommends use of the latest boards based on the Fermi architecture.

AMD/ATI
Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU. If using a FirePro GPU, FirePro unified driver 8.85 or later is required.

Intel
Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU such as HD Graphics 4000.
