Vegas Pro 11 slow start up and slow rendering

I have just upgraded from Vegas Pro 10, to 11, chiefly because of the claimed increase in rendering speed due to GPU acceleration. Well, I have found that the rendereing just crashes, with an "unknown error" every time that the GPU acceleration is enabled even on a trial 2 minute clip. My ATI Radion HD5770 Graphics card has the necessary specification. Rendering using the CPU alone does work, but I notice the CPU % in use has dropped from 100% (all cores in use) to only 60 % with v.11, and the rendering time has increased accordingly.

Secondly, from the first start of the upgrade program following installation, there is a hang for a couple of minutes at the "Creating I/O manager" initialisation stage , and the "Vegas Pro has stopped Working" dialogue box appears. The program does eventually start, but this is a serious retrograde step considering v.10 started in about 6 seconds. If the "stopped working" box is closed, then the program closes also.

These are the problem details. If they mean anything to anybody I would be grateful for their help in identifying what is going on.

Problem Description
Application Name: Vegas Pro
Application Version: Version 11.0 (Build 371) 64-bit
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0\x86\FileIOSurrogate.exe
Fault Address: 0x0000000063FBBB89
Fault Offset: 0x0000000063FBBB89

Fault Process Details
Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0\x86\FileIOSurrogate.exe
Process Version: Version 11.0 (Build 371)
Process Description: File I/O surrogate (not visible)

I have sent in a question to Sony, but they do not seem to respond to specific questions any more. I will probably seek a refund, if these problems cannot be resolved, and wait for version 12 next year..

"Unmanaged Exception" is almost always a device driver issue.

Yes, that is true. However, this start problem does not occur in Vegas 10e, which I have reverted to using, and this uses the same devices a 11.

Having looked through the forums database, I found problems with an update to version 9a from 9, and the solution then was related to FileIOSurrogate.exe, just as in the case of 11. A solution was proposed by Vegas in the "next upgrade" but a workaround was described. However, the workaround does not work with version 11.

I have had no more than an automated response from Sony, with references to version 9a, but nothing relative to version 11. I am disappointed that Sony no longer seems to provide free technical advice, but merely automated resonses, which I have found are irrelevant to my problems.

So, I do not know where to go from here.

If you don't reply to the response from Sony, it will be considered solved.
You have to keep responding to it (saying that their solution doesn't work and why) and it will eventually get answered by a knowledgeable tech person instead of basic support.
