Is there sound on anything else ? Ensure your soundcard is the selected audio device. Reinstall your soundcard ?

Yes Geoff,
Sound is fine on everything else.
And for previous projects which I have made on Vegas Pro 11, when I open them again in Vegas Pro 11, the video and audio from the timeline play OK.
So it seems unlikely that the problem is with the soundcard.
I tried importing a video/audio file into a new Vegas Pro 12 project and again the audio would not play from the timeline.
The audio track header and the Master bus both show that that the audio is playing, but there is no sound output.
It appears to me that some setting in Vegas Pro 12 has changed, but I have checked the VP12 audio settings and they all seem fine.

What audio device are you using?

What is the master bus routed to?

Hi Peter,
I am currently using Realtek HD Audio
I do also have a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi card fitted, but it is not presently set as the default.
I do not know what the master bus is routed to. I have always just accepted the default settings. How do I find out the answer to your question, and what settings should I be using?
Gibbo

I have since checked out in the Mixing Console, the Master Bus settings on both VP11 (where audio output is still OK) and VP12.
On VP 11, the output setting is Microsoft Sound Mapper. On VP 12, the corresponding setting seems to be Front L/R and there does not seem to be an option to change it to Microsoft Sound Mapper.
Is this the problem? If so, could you please advise how to change the output setting to Microsoft Sound Mapper.
Gibbo

I have found out how to change the output setting to Microsoft Sound Mapper.
Options - Preferences - Audio Device - MS Sound Mapper.
I have changed the Vegas Pro 12 output setting to MS Sound Mapper and the timeline audio is now playing OK .
Problem solved. Thanks Geoff and Peter.
