@Laurence
Do you use any third party apps/plug-ins with your Vegas? If so, you may have to uninstall all of them, install VP12 and reinstall the additional software for it. You could also try uninstalling any third party software you have and then try and start VP12. If it works from here, reinstall one app and always try to start Vegas to find which one causes the problem. If you have your system on a HDD, try and run a scandisk and defrag the drive. For an SSD, skip the defrag but you can still run a scandisk just to be sure. Another issue could be your Vegas temporary folder. Check the location and delete any files in it. There could be a corrupt autosave or temp file in it.

I have lots and lots of third party plugins. Uninstalling and reinstalling them all would take quite a lot more time than I have right now. On the other hand, I just checked this thread because Vegas once again hung on startup. No, it's not the media. Vegas hangs or crashes on startup before any media is even entered into the equation. That or its crashes on render, but then it doesn't seem to crash any more on one type of media than another. The big trick on the render crashes is to start out each session rendering an empty (except for one inserted empty) video track. As long as I do that, it won't crash on a render.

On startup, it keeps crashing in different places. Sometimes it does it when it is sensing the plugins. Just now it did it while it was initializing the UI. I'm restarting again as I type and this hang isn't at an identifiable point. Once it starts hanging, it takes lots and lots of restarts to finally get going. I really am seriously looking at other editing options. This is just too annoying for words. If I had a client here it would be downright embarrassing.

Five more hangs in a row. I'm supposed to meet someone with something rendered tomorrow at 11 am. I wonder if Walmart is hiring??!!

Whoo hoo! Logging off and back onto Windows let me start finally. That was definitely quicker than rebooting. Now as long as I start an empty project, insert a video track, call up the render dialog then cancel out, it won't crash when I try to render. Just too silly to have to work this way. Boy do I miss Vegas 9 and earlier sometimes. If only they would work with the new camera formats.

I am more inclined to say its one of your plug ins rather then Vegas but there is no easy way to test this. Have tried to locate the Vegas temp folders and delete any files in it? When Vegas stops working it may leave the FileSerogate.exe running which why a log off and log in successful, it will shut down any running application and foreign processes.

After a month of sending reports from my computer, Sony Tech Eric:

Most of the Vegas Pro 12 crash reports in the system information involve: Faulting module name: ntdll.dll Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll

Have you attempted a repair install of the OS as of to troubleshoot this issue?

I'm not qualified to do an OS install, but I see suggestions on how to fix ntdll problems just by searching on "ntdll" in Google.

Anyone have experience with fixing ntdll problems?

I'm concerned about Eric's statement that "most" of the crash reports show this problem--it crashes anywhere between a few seconds and a few minutes EVERY TIME I preview. GPU off and it never crashes.

Thanks,

Jaums
