Vegas pro 12 Build 770 doesn't save settings

hi

i'm having problems with build 770.
everytime i open vegas i have to resize the project media window, explorer window, transitions window, videoFX and media generators window. it does not store the settings!
also, when i edit the project properties and set "start all new projects with these settings" - it doesn't matter. next time i open vegas all default again.

is there a file with write protection or a known bug?
when i leave vegas all seams normal but next time i start vegas all again default.

It's been like that for all V12's life.

Not true. I've had various problems with V12 - but that's never been one of them!

I don't have the problems with what you claim. If it is write protection, logon with administrator rights and try again. If that works and you have a "pro" version of windows you can change the security on the file in question.

thanks for the admin suggestion dancerchris, i should have thought myself about it.
some weeks ago, after a soundforge update it refused to start, telling me something that i have to activate or register and closed. there the admin rights were needed too.

the weird thing now is: when i run vegas as admin all windows fit and properties for the project are there -
if i run as normal user - everything is loaded default..

oh well, not had this problem in any update before but good that we nailed the problem.

thanks!

This is most likely a file permission conflict that SCS has overlooked. They should fix it. The easiest work around is to give your user admin privilege (although it is not safe from a virus potential).

This is not a flame on SCS as there are a lot of "pro" level softwares that have the same issue. Personally I think it is sloppy coding, but many companies have this problem. (It may be that they do their testing with admin privilege, "developers" usually do.)

I have found a simple workaround.

I use Window Layouts anyway in Vegas and as soon as I load one it all comes into line with the right layout..

No need to run as administrator.

i ran into a new problem when running admin rights for vegas 12:

now i'm not able to move video files from outside (folders i have open) into the vegas timeline, it just shows the O icon with \ in it and i cannot place it there, so now ALL media i want in my project i have to browse through the integrated explorer!

THAT really sucks, slow and annoying to search.

Running with admin rights is not a solution worth using. I'll change software before I will start doing that. Another possibility might be to change the rights to one particular folder where Vegas wants to keep settings but better to find a way to keep those settings elsewhere.
