Vegas Pro 12 - cannot use Video FX, etc

Hi

I have a reasonably good PC with i7-4670K CPU and AMD HD7870 GPU. I also have a 1440p monitor and I use Dual-DVI connection.

I wanted to use Vegas Pro 12 to edit my GoPro Hero2 videos, but I have experienced the following problems:

1. Most importantly, whenever I choose a Video FX for a track, Vegas stops responding and exits. I have tried a few FXs and the only one that worked was Chroma Blur. I tried disabling GPU acceleration and adjusting Dynamic RAM Preview and it has not worked.

2. The Video Preview on External Monitor button does not do anything. I understand that it is supposed to allow me to see videos full screen.

3. Finally, if I choose 32-bit floating points for my videos, the Preview screen goes black.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

First , try a whole different source - like a generic .avi file - GoPro sources can be an issue entirely.

But more likely - the quest is over your lash-up. Are you using concurrent Intel video and AMD video drivers? Spread between two or more monitors? Which is the video at boot? Preview hookup connections - both ends please? Enabled GPU processing?

Run your GoPro files through the free GoPro Cineform Studio software first.

Thanks to both of you.

I tired converting a GoPro file to .avi using Cineform and then edit in Vegas Pro 12, and it still crashes at the stage after I choose a Video Fx.

videoITguy, in respect of your questions:

1. The concurrent drivers? My CPU does have integrated video, but I direct all the programs to use my AMD GPU. I never had problems with Photoshop CS6, games, etc. In Vegas' Video options, my GPU acceleration shows "Advanced Micro Devices", which I assume stands for AMD.

Aslo, my PC is very new and only had one GPU, so cannot be a conflict with an old nVidea card, for example.

2. I only use one monitor.

3. "Video at boot". How do I check it and which should it be? I checked BIOS and "integrated graphics" option is enabled (if this is what you mean), but this is normal, isn't it?.

4. Sorry, what do you mean by hookup connections? I.e. from monitor to GPU? Everything is fine in that case, every other program recognises my video card.

5. GPU processing - how do I make sure I enable it at Vegas?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone has any other ideas? Could it be DVI connection that I use?

I think yo have a drive or hardware conflict somewhere. Unfortunately, you give much information about your system and the version of VP12 you are using. Would you care to update your system spec?

In a case like yours, I would try and take out the discrete card and try jut with the Intel GPU or disable the Intel GPU and use only the discrete card. What drivers are you using with your card and which OS?
