Vegas Pro 12 - incorrect framerate identified

I have some 23.976fps MP4 files that Vegas Pro 12 build 770 identifies and treats as 23.986fps.

Vegas file properties shows this:

Streams
Video: 00:01:55.317, 23.986 fps progressive, 720x404x12, AVC
Audio: 00:01:55.349, 48,000 Hz, Stereo, AAC

but Mediainfo gives the correct info:
Width : 720 pixels
Height : 404 pixels
Frame rate : 23.976 fps

Getting the project properties by using "Match Video Settings" also comes up with a framerate of 23.986 fps.

Has anyone else come across this?

Could your source be variable frame rate? Does it make any difference in the preview or rendered output?

Vegas is reading some vfr jitter that's all. Leave it unchanged.

I can only render to 23.976, I don't see any difference with the project at 23.976 or 23.986. It's a mystery to me.
