Vegas Pro 12 'rendering' crash!

I'm having consistent 'crashes' using Vegas 12. The same thing was happening with Vegas 10, so that's why I upgraded. My project is a simple one: Some .jpegs, with some music, not more than 3:00 in length. While trying to render it to a .wmv file, I get about 20 seconds into the render, and then my entire system crashes! At first, I received an error message upon re-boot that said "kdbsync.exe has stopped working". An internet search led me to a forum, that said I needed to disable something within my video card (it's a Catalyst AMD ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series). I did this, but in trying to render again, it still continued to crash. I called AMD, and explained my situation. They tell me that it has to do with something within Sony Vegas, something that Sony is supposedly working on it. So instead of waiting, I upgraded to Pro 12. Still, it crashes.

This is running on a Windows 7/64-bit machine. I tried dragging the same files (photos, music, titles) into a session using Windows Media-Maker, and it did NOT crash, producing a finished .wmv file. Can anyone lend some expertise? Thank you.

Switch your preferences from GPU to CPU only and try again.

Thanks for reaching out....is that the 'Preferences' fix I've been reading about? Where you go to Options/Video, and then make sure that 'GPU acceleration of video processing' is OFF? If so, I think this version has that as a default anyway, since the drop-down tab offers no other choice. If not....then, where would I perform that function?

I had a similar problem even though I "disabled" GPU acceleration. Found out that the render template enabled GPU for RENDERING. Had to make a custom template that disabled the feature. No crashes after that change.

Bofus...thanks for the reply. Where exactly can you create that? When I choose "render as', I do see some available 'options' to tinker with, but I'm not seeing anything that denotes an option to 'disable GPU'? Thanks...

I turned off GPU when rendering to WMV in Vegas 12, because it was crashing. GPU seems solid for mp4 and mpg2.

Edited to add GPU

It was in the AVCHD format, not wmv. Sorry!
