Vegas Pro 13 + 14 Upgrade offer ends tomorrow? Not enough info on 14

Hi,

So I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I'm sure it's a question a lot of Vegas Pro users have.

There's currently an offer to get Vegas Pro 13 with $400 dollars off, and you will also get Vegas Pro 14 for free when it's out next month. Both Vegas Pro 13 and 14 for $200 - sounds like a no brainer right?

Sounds great!...but the offer ends tomorrow and there's next to no info on what new features Vegas Pro 14 will have. Yeah it can do ProRes and 4K smart upscaling, but what else?

Also - I already have Vegas Pro 13 Suite which I got two years ago from Sony. I don't really need to buy Vegas Pro 13 - isn't there an upgrade offer for people who already own Vegas Pro? And if there isn't now will there be? Cause I could get the Vegas Pro 13 + 14 offer and then just sell my extra copy of Vegas Pro 13 right?

One last thought - I have Vegas Pro 13 Suite - will there be a Vegas Pro 14 Suite? Cause we don't seem to have any info on what that will include - Hitfilm, Sound Forge etc etc, and so without this info I don't really want to get the offer on the site, but only have until tomorrow to decide. I've been on the phone trying to get through to the Magix helpline for 25 minutes and it's just music and no answer.

Anyone else got any thoughts/advice on this situation for Vegas Pro users???

HEVC/H.265 support. I think that's all the new features we know about so far. And you shouldn't assume it will be able to render ProRes. It might only be able to read it without installing Quicktime.

From here: "Those of you who already use VEGAS Pro 13 will receive a separate upgrade offer in September."

For your information, during the introductory period in 2014, an upgrade to Vegas Pro Edit 13.0 cost $124.95, to Vegas Pro 13.0 cost $149.95, and to Vegas Pro 13.0 Suite cost $299.95 (according to an email I was sent on 28th May 2014).

I was thinking of upgrading but I've decided to hold off untill the future.  From my prospective, Sony was putting little or no effort into Vegas for the last few years.  Knowing that they were going to sell the product line, I would assume they put very little to no resources into it over the last year.  Fast forward to now, Magix buys Vegas and has to reasemble a viable development team to fix this outdated product line.  How much do you really expect them to accomplish in a few months.  I believe Magix is dedicated to making this great again, but again how much can they accomplish in such a short time.  So, I'll wait to see what 14 looks like, but my guess is we won't really see the full fury of Magix until 15.

I just purchased the 13/14 offer and was looking at some VASST extensions. Got this from VASST.

"None of the VASST plug-ins support the MAGIX version of Vegas Pro 13.0. We recommend that you use the Sony version of Vegas Pro 13.0 which is what our plug-ins were designed to work with."

The email goes on to say that 14 is expected to support VASST.

I didn't buy and can't download the Sony version. It's not the end of the world but it will be interesting to see how the relationships with extension manufacturers are going forward. Meanwhile I will go back to Premiere CS6 for the high  speed items I want to do.

[**update   8th Sep. i'm told this is solved in build 545 of Vegas Pro 13. I havent tested yet as despite registering Vegas it doesnt appear in my account as a software download]

I have decided to drop the offer, there will likely be plenty of offers later as well. Sony have molested the software for years and it will take Magix a very long periode to clean up that mess, and fix bugs and unsolved issues. It will be version 15, or more likely version 16, before I maybe will give it a try. Want to see reports about the software being much more solid and bug-free, what formats supported, and much more detailed info about gfx/hardware-support, what outside plugs will be available on the platform, and what direction development will be taken in general. It's also absolutely nessesary that I see Magix being open about developement, and present at the forum, visible, and in constant contact with the users,... not hiding away, with nose-up attitude like Sony. At that time, when Magix has saved the sinking ship, like we all hope for, I will gladly pay the full price, in case they have succeded, but in the meantime there is plenty of hard work to do, I will follow the community closely,...

I think it may be incorrect to assume there was no development going on at Sony for Vegas and Sound Forge. Just not at the usual pace we had become accustomed to. While I have the full Adobe CC subscription, I still prefer Vegas for video editing and will continue to use it if it stays relevant to my needs. Once 14 is released I'll be waiting for Magic Bullet suite to update as well.

I have been using Sony Vegas for years.  Dave Hill, who provided the backbone for Soundforge and Vegas at Sonic Foundry which was purchased by Sony.  I have seen the software grow in power and stability for years.  Then when Vegas 13 came out I had nothing but trouble.  I still run Vegas 12 because of its stability.  I would recommend that we support Magix and hope that they provide an open Beta so we can test and help the future of Vegas.  I use a program called Xara which is owned by Magix.  It is a very powerful raster and vector based art program that is unlike anything else out there on the market.  If Xara is any indication of Magix creative programming, then we are in good hands.
